DNC Pictures

Celebrities Everywhere!

This past week was super crazy. We hosted the Democratic National Convention at the Pepsi Center here in Denver. We worked very long days and dealt with some really nice people and some not so nice people. The first day was a total cluster! Because the DNC "rented" our building for 10 weeks, we pretty much were treated like tenants. Even though all of us are in the event industry and have worked and planned several events, they really didn't want to hear our suggestions and did their own thing anyway. So, the first day they did everything their way...hence the cluster! Late that evening we met with the DNC people and gave them our suggestions - needless to say, the next two days were great!

Even though we worked very hard, I had a great time. I wasn't so much into listening to all the speeches (even though I saw quite a few of them) I was more into the celebrity sightings!
One of the highlights of my week was shaking hands with President Jimmy Carter and his wife and then later shaking hands with President Bill Clinton. I just happened to be at the right place at the right time. How often do you get to shake a President of the United States hand?

There were so many famous people in the building, but I only saw a few:
1) Muhammad Ali - we actually were asked to get him a wheelchair (even though he refused to use one) and then have a security team escort him to his suite. As soon as people realized who he was...they pretty much attacked him. It took him forever to get to his seat.
2) Blair Underwood
3)
Taye Diggs - I saw him several times

4) Angela
Bassett - hello Stella!
5) Biff - David Letterman's side kick - they tried to get us to be on
TV, but we thought it wouldn't be very professional while we were working and all....and then the next thing we know, our Director of Security is being interviewed and filmed.
6) Charles Barkley
7) Rudy Giuliani
8)  Omarosa
9)  Deidre Hall - otherwise known as  Dr. Marlena Evans from DOOL!
10)  Stephen Spielberg
11)  Jamie Foxx
12)  President Jimmy Carter
13)  President Bill Clinton
14)  Senator John Kerry
15)  Ummm....several other Senators, but I'm not quite sure who they were! :)
16)  Martin Luther King's son
17)  Alicia Witt
18)  Ashley Judd - she is the cutest thing - we actually ate dinner next to her one night!
19)  KJ - former Suns player
20)  Bill O'Reilley
21)  Kerry Washington
22)  Megyn Kelly - America's Newsroom
23)  Oprah - we saw her on the last night - through my binoculars - she was sitting in a suite a couple sections over from us..supposedly Mary J. Blige was in her suite, but we never saw her.
24)  Al Gore
25) Tim Daly - from Wings
26)  Shawn Johnson
27)  John Legend
28)  Sheryl Crow
29)  Jennifer Hudson
30)  Stevie Wonder

I'm sure there are others, but this is all I can remember right now...I'll have to update this as the others come to me.

DNC in Denver - August 25-28, 2008

Tomorrow the Democratic National Convention begins right here in Denver. We are actually hosting the first three days of the convention at Pepsi Center. The closing speech will be delivered on Thursday at Invesco Field! It has been crazy at moments getting ready for this, but I am excited to see it all come together.

Betsy's Visit to Colorado

My friend Betsy from Texas came to Colorado this summer for her friends wedding. The wedding was in Colorado Springs which is about 30 miles south of where we live. So, she came and stayed with us for the weekend and I was actually her date for the wedding. We had a great time catching up and eating some great food!

This is us right after the wedding...waiting for the reception to begin.

The wedding was Saturday morning and so when we got back to Castle Rock Winston took us up to the mountains to do some hiking. We hiked up to the forest fire look out called Devils Head. Just when we thought the hike was almost over - we came to these stairs. You have to climb these if you want to see if the hike was all worth it.

It was! Here's part of the view from the top.

Summer trip to Philadelphia

Every summer my in-laws go on a trip with just the girls. This was the first summer I was able to go with them. There are no kids allowed on the trip and so two of my sister-in-laws were missing because they both have had a baby within the last year. This summer the trip was to Philadelphia! We had a great time visiting all of the tourist sites and visiting some areas we probably shouldn't be in or around during night! :)

We actually stayed in one of Winston's hotels in New Jersey. This is the bridge we took every day to get into Philadelphia.

Typical down town Philadelphia street.

We HAD to try at least one original Philly Cheese Steak sandwich.

At the top of the 'Rocky' steps.

Rocky Balboa statue - it was so hot and humid this day!

ATLANTIC CITY NEW JERSEY

One day we drove about one and a half hours to Atlantic City, New Jersey. I had never been there before. We walked along the boardwalk and did some shopping and also walked down to the beach. The water was super cold. I don't know how anyone could swim in that cold water!

On the way home from Atlantic City we stopped at the cutest little town right on the ocean called Cape May.

Love the Heat!

A couple weeks ago I had the opportunity to have a 'girls' weekend. We were supposed to go to Palm Springs, but we decided we didn't want to spend all that time in the car and spend the money on gas. So, we ended up going to north Scottsdale staying at the JW Marriott. It was wonderful - just what I needed. We spent all day long at the pool.....Kati totally made fun of me because I kept applying my sun screen, but I made it out of there without a sunburn! We chatted the entire time, went to a couple movies, and of course ate some great food! I would move to Arizona in a heart beat. Love the heat! We missed you Lindsey!

A couple months ago my parents drove from Florida to Colorado to visit us. They drove instead of flying so they could bring me literally a car load (and then some) of my stuff that has been sitting in their house forever. This morning as I was going through some of the boxes I found some great stuff.......old love notes from boyfriends, sport banquet programs, EFY registration stuff and one baptism program. It was my friend Michelle DeLuna's baptism program. She was baptized almost 20 years ago....July 24, 1988! Michelle and her husband, Joe, are actually the ones that set me and Winston up on our first blind date! AND...last summer they moved to Castle Rock! Any way, we actually had plans to meet them for dinner tonight. It was fun to give the program to Michelle and see her reaction!

May 20th, 2004

Four years ago Winston and I were married in Mesa, Arizona. Sometimes it seems like yesterday – I can hardly believe it has already been four years. Our wedding was beautiful, but very hot. We actually got up at 6 AM to take pictures before it got too hot. After pictures I went home to take a nap and later that day I got dressed AGAIN and had my hair and makeup done for the second time. During our ceremony it was over 100 degrees – infact, I think it was even a little hotter than 110 degrees! I can’t really remember. Once it hits 100, it’s all the same! ☺ Because it was so sunny, we don’t have any pictures of us coming out of the temple with our eyes open!
At any rate, it was the perfect day to me!

Last night we had a pleasant evening. We had dinner together and spent the evening catching up and planting my new orchid plant Winston got me. It’s absolutely beautiful.
I look forward to the years getting better and better!

Snowboarding

Here's some more snowboarding pictures.
The kids waiting to get registered for their classes.
Getting their boards!
Zach - checking to see if his goggles are going to fit over his helmet.
This picture was taken after a long day as we got in the car ready to head home.
About 10 minutes later!

Spring Break

Last week my sister and her kids came to visit during their Spring Break. We had so much fun ice skating, skiing, hiking, playing games and just hanging out with each other.
The highlight of the week was taking all the kids skiing....well, actually snowboarding. Because all the kids were snowboarding Winston and Darren decided they needed to try it as well. They both took an all day lesson and by the end of the day they were very sore and very frustrated. So, the next day we all hung out in the lodge while the kids had their lessons. About half way through the day we received a call from the Ski School saying that Malyn (Julie's 2nd) was in the medical room. When we got there we were lucky to find out that no bones were broken, but that she wasn't feeling well and couldn't finish her lesson. So, Malyn spent the rest of the day with us in the lodge playing cards and watching the Junior Olympics.

This is all of us hanging out in the lodge at Winter Park.

One day we all hiked "the Rock" - this picture was taken at the top where it was very windy!

Good Times - First Time

For Christmas I gave Winston a gift certificate to go snowmobiling - good for 2 hours on a Saturday morning some time this winter. This last week he decided to cash it in. So, early in the week I made reservations for four (we went with our friends Paul and Alysa) - hoping we would have some good weather.

The weather was perfect this past weekend. There's still snow on the ground, but it was one of those super sunny wintery weekends. I had to attend a Stake Women's Conference Saturday morning - so we left for the mountains right after. Our reservations were for 2:30 PM and we wanted to arrive with time to spare. We all got dressed and checked-in with our guide, Angus! I know, I know, I had to ask him twice what his name was. :)

He taught us how to run the snowmobiles and then they gave us about 10 minutes to run around the practice track.

Winston and Paul were crazy on the machines! It was all we could do to keep up with them. We had a couple girls from Alabama in our group and when we stopped at the "1/2 way" place they complained to our guide that they felt like they were being left out because we were going so fast. Winston and Paul responded - "the gas pedal is on the right!" Our guide pretended to slow down for them, but he really didn't! I think they were bugged with us, but we had a great time.

This picture was taken at the Continental Divide where we stopped for a short break.

Me and Winston in our gear!

Us with the Claverie's!

Afterwards we went into the town of Breckenridge and had a nice dinner at a pretty good Mexican restaurant. We were all exhausted!

Skiing at A-Basin

We went skiing last weekend to Arapahoe Basin. We left at 6:45 am and did not get to the mountain until 10:30 am. The roads were so crowded with people heading up to the ski resorts - it was bumper to bumper traffic - stop and go the entire trip.
Winston actually hurt his knee on the first run so I skied the rest of the day with our friends Alysa and Paul. Winston hung out in the lodge! :) We have had so much snow in the mountains and the skiing was great....lots of powder.

Nordies at Noon

I just finished reading this book and would recommend it to every woman. It's about 4 young ladies who are in their late 20's early 30's and are diagnosed with breast cancer. They all share their stories of how they dealt with and are still dealing with the illness. But BEWARE it may bring a few tears!

The Hobbs

This is my sisters cute family. They are all coming to visit for Spring Break - I can't wait!

Happy Valentines Day

Happy Valentines Day everyone....a little late! :)
Winston was actually out of town this entire week so we didn't get to spend Valentines Day together, but he did send me flowers and had a package waiting for me when I came home that day. No worries though - I wasn't alone. My good friend Becky came to visit me for a couple of days. We had a great time shopping, going to movies, watching tv and spent a lot of time catching up (that was my favorite!).
For Valentines Day we met some of my co-workers at PF Changs in down town dinner. It was fun to spend the evening with the girls. After dinner we went out dancing at this place called Monark. I can't remember the last time I went dancing, but It was super fun!

This picture was taken at PF Changs - Jacque, Danielle, Lisa and Becky.......cute girls, huh? :)

Jacque and Becky - we actually went to a lounge in between dinner and the dance club.

This is us towards the end of the night!
